WHY SERVICE YOUR VEHICLE

Maintaining your vehicle gives you the peace of mind that you have done as much as you can to prolong the vehicles life and reliability whilst maybe getting some information that can prevent a breakdown and expensive unexpected repair bills. Legally, you have to have an MOT annually which checks the condition of your vehicle in certain area's especially safety related items such as tyres, brakes and suspension.

Although this is an important inspection, it doesn't look into the maintenance of the engine, the condition and level of oil or the relative filters that help the engine to perform at it's maximum ability and economy. 

WHEN SHOULD YOU SERVICE YOUR CAR

Some vehicles have Service Indicators or Service Lights and you can wait for the light to come on before booking a service. Most cars have an Annual service schedule and many of their owners combine the service with the MOT so as to make only one visit to the garage. WHY SO MANY DIFFERENT SERVICES

There are normally three levels of servicing, we have called them, Oil Service, Standard Service and Full Service and the choice is there because some of the items covered under the services do not have to be done every year. 

It would be sensible to change the oil and filter every year, this way you know that the internal working parts of the engine have been protected as much as possible. This can be achieved by an Oil Service as detailed in the schedule below.

From there, you can opt to change the filter like the Air Filter which helps the engine to breath and Pollen Filter which helps filter the air coming into the cabin of the car. This will help Hay Fever sufferers by filtering the pollen and preventing it getting in.

As I mentioned previously, there are some items that do not need to be changed every year and the change cycle could be every three to five years depending on the make and model. These are covered in the Full Service and cover items such as fuel filter and spark plug.

All services include a Vehicle Health Check which is a very important part of the service schedule which includes checking brakes, tyres, exhaust pipes, lights and includes a road test with the intention to raise and discuss any issues with our customers.

Finally, under each of the Services that are detailed below, all of the fluid levels are checked and topped up if required, such as Screen Wash, Power Steering Fluid, Brake Fluid and Coolant Strength.

At this point, both you and us should be happy that your vehicle is roadworthy for the coming year based on the information gathered at the Service and MOT. There maybe a plan put in place that may mean an interim inspection is scheduled for say six months to recheck tyres or brakes and their respective life span.

OTHER SERVICES AVAILABLE

These are other items that need changing at some point and are detailed in the manufacturers service schedule. 

Brake Fluid Change should be done every three to five years. The fluid deteriorates over time and use, turning a percentage into water, weakening it's consistency whilst the water rusts the inside of the brake pipes.

Air Conditioning Re-gas again should be done every three to five years and will help the system operate effectively and prevent odours from the heating system.
